![]() ![]() ![]() Samsung Evo 840 500Gb Ssd Mini Windows 7 Or Above(User Errors and Computer Guy errors, maybe, but the drives gave me no problems.)Cons: For this mSATA, I have no complaints. I'm tickled to say it was just as beautiful and it as well fixed all the problems other brand (When I bought the 512GB SSDs from other brand, I got 2 of them and both were horrible)If you've played with SSD drives and know you need Windows 7 or above (No Tweaking Required unlike previous OS) and you know about putting it in AHCI mode and you know how to use the search engine to get help if you need it, then you shouldn't have any problems with this brand. I throw this out there because other brand doesn't care and if you had to deal with them because the drive you got didn't perform like a SSD should (2+ minute reboot times) then this bit of information is important to you.The Samsung SATA I got replaced other brand (The 2+ minute reboot time 512GB SSD) and the Samsung fixed all issues and ran beautifully! I'm back to under 20 seconds now.The mSATA I gambled on because I never used one before. I got a SATA 500GB SSD as well as one of these mSATA and the both have been as perfect as you can imagine!Unlike other brand SSD, my SATA worked in many different enclosures without any problems. I had to give these a shot.(If you forget about this, like I almost did, then this tip is for you.)If you clear your BIOS (Accident or on purpose) then you may need to disconnect this drive to get into BIOS and re-enable AHCI. (I'm one of the lucky ones, I know!)For the SATA version, there is a lot of wasted space in the case! I seen one of these taken apart on the net and They could easily fit 3 maybe even 4 TB worth of chips in the same little case.Overall Review: AHCI mode needs enabled. I had a screw and didn't need one. So I understand those that didn't have a screw handy, finding that to be a con. If your mobo doesn't come with an msata controller, you can purchase a PCIe adapter, or a 2.5" adapter OR you can even go external and purchase a enclosure with usb 3.0 out (however i would recommend finding one that allows for a sata connection so you can perform firmware upgrades to the ssd drive itself)RAPID mode allows for almost double the speed specs based on the idea of "borrowing" 1gb of ram to use as super cache. Just smaller and leaving the SATA bay for another SSD.)Pros: Speed, when used in a msata3 connection, i'm able to just about top out at the max speed allowed by the bus (6Gbps = 600MBs) and all this from a single drive!Msata format gives you plenty of options to use this in. The laptop that took this mSATA is a first in using an mSATA and it just worked as great as the SATA. (I'm saying this after using 3 different brands in my HTPC and all were SATA connections. To clear the bios! And when I was trying to plug in my Fiber Optic cable and thought that little button was the hole it was suppose to plug into! It took me a half hour to trouble shoot my "Opps!" and get back up and running! If you got stuck with a horrible drive (And you know this because you've tested them (Because you got more than one when they were on sale, and the issues happen in more than three different machines and a bunch of other brand SSD drives don't have said issues) and need a REAL SSD drive to impress you. This should do it. Zotero plugin for word macHowever if price isn't a concern, this is one sweet device.Note - Samsung offers various capacities for this ssd (120gb, 256gb, 500gb & 1tb) "on paper" only the latter two sizes (500gb & 1tb) offer the higher iops specs. Hopefully something can change with a future update to all multi drive supportOverall Review: right now i wouldn't recommend getting this from newegg simply because newegg at this time, is charging more for this device than all other retailers i looked at. Seeing that this seems to be an OS driving service, i figured i wouldn't get too much better speed for the OS drive so i attached t to my data drive. For me my laptop has 2 drives so i had to pick which one i wanted it enabled on. Not sure why but its listed higher here than at other locations.RAPID mode only allows to be paired with 1 samsung compatible ssd. I never install OEM software but i'm keeping this, monitors the drive, gives you pretty statistics, easy firmware upgrades & can manually run Trim!Cons: newegg is putting a premium on this device.
